ἀντιβάλλω,
I throw against or in turn, Th. 7.25 (the acc. pers. being understood); βέλος Plb. 6.22.4: c. dat., ἀ. ἀκοντίοις Plu. Nic. 25; ἀ. τῷ κωρύκῳ practise by striking against the sack, in the gymnasium, Luc. Lex. 5; put back a protruding bone, Pall. in Hp.Fract. 12.285C.
II put one against the other, compare, collate, of Mss., Str. 13.1.54, 17.1.5, POxy. 1479 (i B.C., Pass.); match, compare with, λέοντι τίς αἰετὸν ἀντιβάλοιτο; Opp. C. 1.68; λόγους ἀ. πρὸς ἀλλήλους exchange words in conversation, Luke 24:17; πρὸς ἑαυτὸν ἀ. τὸ γεγονός weigh with oneself, LXX 2 Maccabees 11:13.
III in Med., change, μορφήν dub. 1. Opp. C. 3.16.
ἀντιβάλλω; to throw in turn (properly, Thucydides 7, 25; Plutarch, Nic. 25): λόγους πρός ἀλλήλους to exchange words with one another, Luke 24:17 (cf. 2 Macc. 11:13).

The subst. ἀντιβλήματα is found in P Oxy III. 498.16 (ii/A.D.), a contract with stone-cutters, where the editors understand it of small stones used to insert in vacant places between larger ones. Vettius Valens p. 351.20 ἐπειράθημεν καὶ τὰς ἀντιβαλλούσας μοίρας τῇ εὑρεθείσῃ ἐπισυντιθέναι, ὅπως ἡ ἑτέρα χρηματίσει μοῖρα, ";the corresponding parts"; presumably.
