lit. ";a time limit"; for enforcement of claims which ἡ προθεσμία (sc. ἡμέρα), ";the previously appointed day,"; is a common legal term, as in Galatians 4:2 : cf. P Oxy I. 37i. 11 (A.D. 49) (= Selections, p. 49) ἐνέστηι ἡ προθεσμία τοῦ δευτέρου ἐνιαυτοῦ, ";there arrived the appointed time for the second year,"; ib. IV. 728.18 (A.D. 142) τῇ ὡρισμένῃ προθεσμίᾳ, ";the stipulated date"; (Edd.), P Tebt II. 294.17 (A.D. 146) ταῖς συνήθεσι προθεσμίαις, ";at the accustomed dates,"; and P Oxy IV. 724.12 (A.D. 155) οὐκ ἐκδέξομαι τὴν προκειμένην προθεσμ [ ]αν, ";I will not wait for the aforesaid limit.";

The word is used of ";instalment"; in P Ryl II. 100.11 (A.D. 238) τὸν φόρον ἀπο ]δώσω ὑμῖν ἐν δυσὶ προθεσμί [αις, ";I will deliver the rent to you in two instalments"; (Edd.). For the compd. ἐκπρόθεσμος see P Oxy III. 533.6 (ii/iii A.D.) ]να μὴ ἐκπρόθεσμα γένηται, ";that they may not be later than the due time"; (Edd.).
