Vocabulary of the Greek NT

Hicks (CR i. p. 44) has drawn attention to the fact that πρεσβεία, ";the office of ambassador,"; was ";in everyday use in the intercourse between the Greek cities, and between them and the kings"; : this gives fresh point to its use in Luke 14:32; Luke 19:14. See further s.v. πρεσβεύω, and for πρεσβεία = ";intercession,"; cf. P Oxy VIII. 1151.39 (v/A.D.?) εὔχεσθ ̣α ̣ι πρεσβίαις τῆς δεσποίνης ἡμῶν τῆς θεοτόκου, ";pray through the intercession of our lady the mother of God.";
