οἰνοφλυγία, ὀινοφλυγιας, ἡ (οἰνοφλυγέω, and this from οἰνόφλυξ, which is compounded of οἶνος and φλύω, to bubble up, overflow), drunkenness (A. V. wine-bibbing): 1 Peter 4:3. (Xenophon, oec. 1, 22; Aristotle, eth. Nic. 3, 6, 15; Polybius 2, 19, 4; Philo, vita Moys. iii., § 22 (for other examples see Siegfried, Philo etc., p. 102); Aelian v. h. 3, 14.) (Cf. Trench, § lxi.)

This dim. form, which is, however, to be translated simply ";bird"; in Revelation 18:2; Revelation 19:17; Revelation 19:21 (cf. Mark 4:4 W), occurs uncontracted on the verso of P Petr III. 71 (iii/B.C.) οἱ θηρευταὶ τῶν ἀγρίων ὀρνέων : cf. also P Ryl II. 98 (a).9 (A.D. 154–5) πᾶν ὄρν ̣[εο ]ν ̣, and P Lond 1259.16 (iv/A.D.) (= III. p. 240) ὄρνεα ι ̄γ ̄. For other dim. forms see P Oxy XIV. 1729.4 (iv/A.D.) ὀρνιθίων, and P Fay 118.16 (A.D. 110) ἀγόρασον τὰ ὀρνιθάρια τῆς εἱορτῆς, ";buy the birds for the feast"; (Edd.).
