I change, alter, θέσμια Hdt. 1.59; τὰν ἀνθρώπου ζόαν ἆται.. μεταλλάσσουσι S. Fr. 592.6; πότμος.. μ. φύσιν ib. 871.2; μεταβολὴν βίου μ. Pl. Lg. 775c; οὐ γὰρ τὸν τρόπον, ἀλλὰ τὸν τόπον μετήλλαξεν Aeschin. 3.78; μετήλλαξαν τὴν ἀλήθειαν ἐν τῷ ψεύδει Romans 1:25; πόνου μεταλλαχθέντος οἱ πόνοι γλυκεῖς S. Fr. 374; τὰς τύχας ἑκατέρων μετήλλαξαν interchanged them, Isoc. 4.59.

II exchange,

III intr., undergo a change, change, Epich. 170.15, Hdt. 2.77, E. Fr. 262, Arist. HA 578b10: with neut. Pron., τοσοῦτο μετήλλαξε κατὰ τὸν βίον Phld. Acad.Ind. p.49 M.: c. gen., change from, Th. 8.70. substitute, transfer, τινὰς εἰς τήν τινων χώραν Pl. Ti. 19a.

μεταλλάσσω: 1 aorist μετηλλαξα; from Herodotus down; (not In the Sept., yet nine times in 2 Macc.; also 1 Esdr. 1:31); to exchange, change (cf. μετά, III. 2): τί ἐν τίνιt, one thing with (for) another (on this construction see ἀλλάσσω), Romans 1:25; τί εἰς τί, one thing into another, Romans 1:26.
