Vocabulary of the Greek NT

For the plur. of this subst., as in Matthew 15:19, Mark 7:21, cf. the astrological P Tebt II. 276.16 (ii/iii A.D.) ἡ δὲ Ἀφροδίτ ]η παρατυγχάνουσα τῷ τοῦ [Ἄρεως πορ ]νίας <καὶ > μοιχείας κατι ̣σ ̣[τ ]ησιν, ";Venus in conjunction with Mars causes fornications and adulteries"; (Edd.). On the OT usage of μοιχεία see s.v. πορνεία. Wackernagel (Hellenistica, p. 9) conjectures a possible Doric form *μοιχα ̄, ";adultery.";
