κοινωνός, as in Luke 5:10, is illustrated by the fisher-compact in P Amh II. 100.4 (A.D. 198–211), where Hermes takes Cornelius as his ";partner"; to the extent of a sixth share in the yearly rent of a lake—προσελάβετο τὸν Κορνήλιον κοινωνὸν τῆς αὐτῆς λίμνης κατὰ τὸ ἕκτον μέρος ἐπὶ φόρῳ : cf. BGU IV. 1123.4 (a lease—time of Augustus) ὁμολογοῦμεν εἶναι τοὺς τρεῖς με [τό ]χ ̣ους καὶ κοινωνοὺς καὶ κυρίους ἕκαστον κατὰ τὸ τρίτον μέρος, ib. II. 530.14 (i/A.D.) (= Selections, p. 61), where in connexion with the care of an allotment a father writes to his son—ὁ κοινωνὸς ἡμῶν οὐ συνηργάσατο, ";our partner has taken no share in the work,"; P Amh II. 92.18 (A.D. 162–163) οὐχ ἕξω δὲ κ [ο ]ινωνὸν οὐδὲ μίσθιον γ ̣ε ̣ν ̣[ό ]μ ̣ε ̣νον τῆς ὠνῆς ὑποτελῆ, ";I will have no partner or servant who is liable on account of the contract"; (Edd.), PSI IV. 306.3 (contract—ii/iii A.D.) προσειληφέναι Τ [ . . . ]ο ̣ην κοινωνὸν ἐξ ̣ ι ̣̀σ ̣ου, and P Oxy XIV. 1626.2 (A.D. 325) οἱ κοινωνοί, ";their associates"; (Edd.). With 1 Corinthians 10:18 we may compare BGU I. 287.19 (A.D. 250) (= Selections, p. 116), a certificate of pagan sacrifice, where the presiding magistrate certifies a certain Diogenes as ";participant"; in the sacrifice—Αὐρή [λ (ιος)] Σύρος Δι [ογένη ] θύοντα ἅμα ἡ [μῖν ?] κοινωνὸς σεσ [ημείωμαι : it should be noted, however, that the reading is doubtful, see Chrest, I. p. 152, Archiv v. p. 277 f. Sharp (p. 22) compares Epict. i. 22. 10 γονεῖς, ἀδελφοί, τέκνα, πατρίς, ἁπλῶς οἱ κοινωνοί with 2 Corinthians 8:23.
