1. causal of καταβαίνω, make to go down, bring down, τινὰ ἀπὸ τῆς πυρῆς Hdt. 1.87, cf. 86; τοὺς ἐκ τοῦ καταστρώματος ἐς κοίλην νέα Id. 8.119; στρατιώτας.. εἰς τὴν Χώραν τῶν Φρυγῶν Hell.Oxy. 16.3; τὴν πόλιν πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν Plu. Them. 4; bring from town to country, Id. Cam. 10; down into a mine, Th. 7.86, Plu. 2.262d: metaph., bring down, lower, κ. σεαυτὸν ἀπὸ αὐχημάτων εἰς τὸ δημοτικώτερον D.H. 7.45: Pass., κωμῳδία -βιβασθεῖσα εἰς τὸ λογοειδές Str. 1.2.6.

2. force to come down, εἰς τὸ ὁμαλὸν τὸ στρατόπεδον X. HG 4.6.7, cf. Th. 5.65; drive away, Hp. Prorrh. 1.143.

II bring down, τὴν διήγησιν ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχὴν τοῦ πρώτου Φοινικικοῦ πολέμου D.H. 1.8; τὸν λόγον ἐπὶ τὰ νῦν καθεστῶτα Luc. Rh. Proverbs 20:1-30.

καταβιβάζω: 1 future passive καταβιβασθήσομαι; to cause to go down (Herodotus 1, 87; Xenophon, Cyril 7, 5, 18; the Sept. several times for הורִיד; to bring down, Baruch 3:29); to cast down, thrust down: passive, ἕως ᾅδου (see ᾅδης, 2), Matthew 11:23 R G T; Luke 10:15 (Tr marginal reading WH text καταβήσῃ (which see 3)); εἰς ᾅδου, Ezekiel 31:16.
