With Mark 1:8 we may compare the reference to τρίχ ̣ες εἰς τοὺς σάκκους in P Petr II. 33(a)(1).9 (as completed ib. III. P. 333). The word is naturally common in the personal descriptions of parties to a will or deed, e.g. P Petr III. 2.6 (B.C. 236) οὐλὴ μετώπωι ὑπὸ τρίχα : cf. ib. 12.14 and 14.18 (both B.C. 234), P Lond 882.11 (B.C. 101) (= III. p. 13), ib. 142.6 (A.D. 95) (= II. p. 203). In P Fay 58.7 (A.D. 155–6) we have the receipt for a tax κοπ (ῆς) καὶ τριχ (ὸς) κ ̣α ̣ι ̣̣ χιροναξίου, ";on cutting and hair and trade."; The same tax is referred to in P Grenf II. 6O.4 (A.D. 193–4) and BGU II. 617.2 (A.D. 215), and as in both these cases the payers of the tax were weavers, Wilcken thinks that the words κοπή and θρίξ had to do with the terminology of their trade (see the editors’ introd. to P Fay 58). Michel 117O.4 (i/A.D.) Ἐπαφρόδιτο [ς ] Ἐπαφροδίτου ὑπὲρ τοῦ παιδίου Ἐπαφροδίτου τὴν παιδικὴν τρίχα Ὑγίᾳ καὶ Ἀσκληπιῷ : cf. the similar dedication of a girl’s ringlets to Isis, Anth. Pal. vi. 60.
