1. carry or bring out, Hdt. 1.34, 3.24, E. Tr. 294; esp. to a place of safety, Hdt. 1.160, 3.122, Th. 2.6; ἐκκομίζειν τινὰ ἐκ τοῦ μέλλοντος γίνεσθαι πρήγματος to keep him out of trouble, Hdt. 3.43: Med., Id. 8.20, Th. 2.78; ἐσεκομίσαντο καὶ ἐξεκομίσαντο ἃ ἐβούλοντο, of those relieved from a state of siege, Id. 1.117: abs., remove, ἐς τοὺς Λοκρούς Hdt. 8.32.

2. esp. carry out a corpse, bury, Plb. 35.6.2 (Pass.), Plu. Cic. 42 (Pass.), etc.

3. ἐ. σῖτον, of a horse, throw the provender out of the manger, X. Eq. 4.2.

ἐκκομίζω is used of carrying out for burial, as in Luke 7:12, in BGU I. 326ii. 1 (ii/A.D.) ἐκκο [μι ]σθῆναι περιστ [αλ ]ῆαί τε ἐμαυτὸ [ν ] θέλω τῇ φροντίδι καὶ εὐσεβείᾳ τῶν [κ ]ληρονόμων μου. For a more general sense cf. PSI IV. 436.5 (B.C. 248–7) ἐκκομίζεσθαι τὰ ὀψώνια, P Lille I. 3.79 (after B.C. 241) λόγους ἐκκομίζεσθαι, P Lond 21.23 (B.C. 162) (= I. p. 13) ἐκκ [ο ]μίσασθαι σύνταξιν, P Fay 12.24 (c. B.C. 103) ἐξεκομισάμην α [ὐτ ], ";I recovered it";—of a pawned garment which had been redeemed. The verb is contrasted with εἰσκομίζω in OGIS 629.28 al. (A.D. 137).
