1 with acc. of the thing cleansed, clear out, οὐρούς τ' ἐξεκάθαιρον Il. 2.153; τὴν κοιλίην Hdt.l.c.; μήτρας, ὀδόντας, Hp. Mul. 1.88, Orib. Syn. 5.25.3; χθόνα ἐκκαθαίρει κνωδάλων he clears this land of monsters, A. Supp. 264; τὸν βίον (i.e.the world) Luc. DDeor. 13.1; .τινά, ὥσπερ ἀνδριάντα, εἰς τὴν κρίσιν clear him of all roughness, polish him up, metaph. from the finishing touches of a sculptor, Pl. R. 361d; ἑαυτὸν ἀπό τινος 2 Timothy 2:21; ἐ.λογισμόν clear off an account, Plu. 2.64f: Pass., to be cleansed, purified, ἐκκεκαθαρμένοι τὰς ψυχάς X. Smp. 1.4, cf. Pl. R. 527d; to be cleared up, explained, Epicur. Ephesians 2 p.36U.

2. with acc. of the thing removed, clear away, Pl. Euthphr. 3a, cf. Arist. HA 625b34; τὸ τοιοῦτον ἐ. γένος Diph. 32.17; τὴν δωροδοκίαν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως Din.l.c.; κόπρον APl. 4.92.7.

Thayer's Expanded Definition

ἐκκαθαίρω: 1 aorist ἐξεκάθαρα (on the cf. Buttmann, 41 (35)); (ἐκ either equivalent to utterly or for ἐκ τίνος); in Greek writings from Homer, Iliad 2, 153 down; to cleanse out, clean thoroughly: ἐμαυτόν ἀπό τίνος, to avoid defilement from one and so keep oneself pure, 2 Timothy 2:21; with the accusative of the thing by the removal of which something is made clean (A. V. purge out), 1 Corinthians 5:7. (For צָרַף equivalent to to cleanse, Judges 7:4 variant; for בִּעֵר equivalent to to take away, Deuteronomy 26:13.)

ἐκκαθαίρω is found quater with the acc. of the person or object cleansed (as in 2 Timothy 2:21) in OGIS 483 (ii/B.C.) e.g..158 ἀναγ ]καζέτωσαν ἐκκαθαίρειν τοὺς ὑπονόμους. See also the Delos inscr. BCH xxvii. p. 73.78 (B.C. 250) Ὠμανέαι καὶ τοῖς μεθ᾽ αὑτοῦ τὸ [στά ]διον ἐκκαθάρασιν, and .75 ἐργάταις τὸν ἠθμὸν ἐκκαθάρασιν τοῦ Ἰνωποῦ. Vett. Val. p. 242.15 τὸν τρόπον μου ἐκκαθᾶραι πάσης κακίας καὶ παντὸς μολυσμοῦ. The verb is supplied in Kaibel 1082.16 Φολόην Κεντ [αύρων ἐξεκάθηρεν, of one of the labours of Hercules.
