Name of the place where the combat between Joab's and Abner's men took place, in which all on both sides were slain (2 Samuel 2:16). It appears from the passage that the name means "the field of the sword-edges." The Septuagint translates "the field of those who lay in wait," reading , a form accepted by several of the modern critics. Thenius reads ("the field of the adversaries").
