The Bene Azgad returned with Zerub babel from the captivity (Ezra 2:12; Nehemiah 7:17). Their number is variously given as 1,222 (Ezra 2:12), 2, 322 (Nehemiah 7:17), 1,322 (I Esd. 5:13, where the form given to the name is "Astad"). Subsequently 110 more came up with Ezra (Ezra 8:12; I Esd. 8:38, "Astath"). Azgad signed the covenant with Nehemiah (Nehemiah 10:16).
