Title given in the Bible to the ancient kings of Egypt. The names of many of them are unknown, such as the Pharao of Abraham, of Joseph, and of the Exodus, and the Pharao with whom Adad sought refuge in the time of David (3Kings 11). Pharao Nechao is mentioned in 4Kings 23; Pharao Ephree in Jeremias 44; the Pharao of the Exodus is thought to have been Merneptah.
