Jesuit scholar; born Orleans, France, 1583; died Paris, France, 1652. His writings cover the field of chronology, history, philosophy, patristics, and the history of dogma. It is for his studies in the last two branches that posterity esteems him most, though in his day he was admired chiefly for his work in chronology.
