Missionary; born in 1608 in Paris, France; died in 1680. He entered the Society of Jesus, went to Quebec, and was soon sent to the Hurons to direct their missions. Later he joined the fugitives on Saint Joseph's Island and led a small band to Quebec. In 1650 he became vice-rector of the College of Quebec and superior of the Canadian mission. Removed to Three Rivers, he was sent as superior to the Iroquois mission. Ragueneau's genius planned and realized the escape from massacre, and return to Quebec, of all the French in the Iroquois country. He returned to France and remained there as procurator of the mission.
