Mystic and religious foundress, born Valladolid, Spain, 1554; died there, 1633. Under the spiritual guidance of Luis de Ponte, she advanced steadily in perfection and bore with joy the bodily afflictions which resulted in her being bedridden at the age of fifty. She was Divinely commissioned to establish a branch of the Brigittine Order with rules modified to suit her times and country. Her revelations, written down by her and arranged by her confessor, were published after her death.
