Martyrs (304). Marcellinus was a Roman priest, eminent for his piety. During the persecution of Diocletian he and his exorcist, Peter, were seized and put to death in the Silva Nigra, not far from Rome. Lucilla and Firmina, two religious women, discovering the secret execution, buried their remains in the cemetery named for them on the Lavican Road. The relics were later transported to Selgenstadt by Einhard, Charlemagne's secretary, who built in their honor a church and monastery, of which he became abbot. Their names occur in the prayer, "Nobis quoque peccatoribus," in the Canon of the Mass. Feast, Roman Calendar, June 2,.
