Martyr, Christian apologist, born Flavia Neapolis, Palestine, c.100;died Rome, c165 Converted to Christianity c.130,he devoted himself to the propagation and defense of Christianity in Asia Minor and at Rome, retaining the garb of philosopher. His only extant works are his two "Apologies" and his "Dialogue with the Jew Tryphon." Emblems: ax, and a sword. Relics in the Capuchin church, Rome. Feast, Roman Calendar, April 14,.
