Poet; author of the Austrian national hymn. Born on June 21, 1804 in Vienna, Austria; died there on July 18, 1875. He was custodian of the imperial cabinet of medals and antiques at Vienna, censor of books, and in 1848 member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences. His adaptation of the national anthem brought him many honors. The didactic poems, Flinserln, are his best work.
