("big lips," from custom of wearing labrets) A Dene tribe of British Columbia, included under general term Takulli. They lived by hunting and fishing, had a matriarchal system and totems, and were ruled by petty chiefs who owned the land. Polygamy was practised. They believed in immortality and buried their dead. Their first contact with whites was in 1812. In 1846 they were evangelized by Father Nobili. In 1873 a mission was established at Stuart Lake by Father Herbomez. Present number about 610, all Catholic.
