Historian, born Giesenkirchen, Rhine Province, 1839; died Valkenburg, Holland, 1902. Entering the Society of Jesus, he was appointed professor of canon law in the college of Ditton Hall, England. He was sent to Holland in 1887, and in 1893 he was called to Rome where Leo XIII placed the archives of the Vatican council at his disposal in order to help him in preparing the history of its acts and decrees. Two volumes of this work were prepared for the press by the author himself and published in 1903. He also wrote a commentary on its dogmatic constitution.
