Decision rendered, 1850, by the judicial committee of the Privy Council of England which directed the Dean of Arches to induct the Reverend George C Gorham into the vicarage of Brampford Speke, in spite of his denial of baptismal regeneration. Numerous protests and appeals were made by High Churchmen and the fierce controversy which arose in regard to it was the main determining factor in Manning's decision to become a Catholic.
