Son of Johann Pichler; painter and gem cutter. Born in Naples, Italy in 1734; died Rome, Italy, 1791. He wrought gems of exquisite beauty: "Hercules," "Sappho," and portraits of Pope Pius VI and Emperor Joseph II.
