Historian of the Dominicans, born Rouen, France, 1644; died Paris, France, 1724. On the death of Jacques Quetif, who had planned and gathered nearly one-fourth of the material for a literary history or the Dominican Order, Echard was commissioned to complete the work, which was published in 1721. A new and revised edition was prepared in 1908 by Remi Coulon, O.P.
