The words used by Pilate when exhibiting Jesus to the multitude, crowned with thorns and holding a reed for a scepter. It is a favorite subject in art; famous examples include Guido Reni's in the Corsini Gallery, Rome, Van Dyck's in the Frederick Museum, Berlin, and representations by Bartolommeo, Borgognone, Caracci, Correggio, Dolci, Guercino, Heinz, Ludovico, Mantegna, Montagna, Morales, Multscher, Murillo, Palma, Rembrandt, Solario, and Titian.
