A Mohammedan sect in Syria opposed to the Maronite Catholics dwelling on the slopes of the Lebanon. Their name is derived from their leader, Dorazy, a Persian at the Egyptian court of El Hakim, whom he proclaimed to be an incarnation of the deity, and fleeing the anger of the crowd, c.1015A.D., came to Wady-el-Teim where he gathered his followers. He was superseded by El Hady, the real founder of the sect and author of its books. Copies of these sacred books of the Druzes, hidden from the world for eight centuries, are now in European libraries.
