Honor paid to the cross, even to relics of the True Cross, is paid not to the lifeless wood, but to Our Lord, who suffered and died thereon for mankind. Kissing the cross, genuflecting before it, or wearing it upon the person are merely marks of respect. There is a special ceremony on Good Friday called Adoration of the Cross.
