Writer, born Bagni di Lucca, Italy, 1854; died Sorrento, Italy, 1909. He was the son of Thomas Crawford, the American sculptor, was educated in American, English, and German colleges and the Roman University, and became a journalist and critic. He was a convert to the Catholic Faith which he professed publicly, but his treatment of things Catholic in certain of his writings is much to be condemned. His works include biography, description, history, and about 40 novels, the best known of which are "Mr. Isaacs," "A Roman Singer," "Saracinesca," "Don Orsino," "Fair Margaret," and "Sant' Ilario."
