(c.605-676) Confessor, founder of the Abbey and Diocese of Mayo, born Connaught, Ireland. A monk of Iona, he was chosen Bishop of Lindisfarne, England, 661, but resigned, 664, owing to the Paschal dispute, in which he supported the Celtic computation. He withdrew to Scotland, but in 668 settled at Innisbotnn, County Mayo, Ireland, where he erected an abbey exclusively for the English monks of Mayo. Feast, August 8,.
