Born London, 1823; died New York, New York, 1896. Having emigrated to the United States she joined the Sisters of Charity in 1850. In 1869 she was entrusted with the establishment of what is now known as the: New York Foundling Hospital. She also founded Saint Anne's Maternity Hospital, 1880 a children's hospital at Spuyten Duyvil, 1881, and the Seton Hospital for Consumptives.
