(1560-1620) Mystic, born Toledo, Spain; died Potosi, Bolivia. A member of the Society of Jesus, he taught theology and philosophy at Lima and was provincial of Peru. He was renowned for his sanctity, is said to have had the gift of prophecy, and it is reported that his body remained incorrupt after death. His writings on the spiritual life are widely used.
