Confessor, born Florence, Italy c.1200;died Mount Senario, near Florence in 1310. He became a member of the Laudesi, or Praisers of Mary, a society of laymen. On August 15, 1233, an apparition of the Blessed Virgin appeared to him and six of his companions. Retiring to La Camarzia, and later to Mount Senario, the seven young men established the Order of Servites. Deeming himself unworthy of Holy Orders, Alexis embraced a life of poverty and humility, soliciting donations for the community in the streets of his native city. He spent much time in propagating devotion to the Blessed Virgin, and securing new members for the Order. Canonized, January 15, 1888. Relics in Florence. Feast, 27 Feburary.
