Morayshire, Scotland, founded, 1150 or 1151, by David I and colonized from Melrose. It was approved by Pope Alexander III, 1174. The abbots were mitred with a seat in Parliament. Robert Reid, abbot from 1535-1541 was the most illustrious of the 24 and became Bishop of Orkney, 1541. His successor Walter conformed to Protestantism and alienated most of the lands which are now possessed by the family of Brodie of Lethen.
