Son of Abiel, father of Abner, and Saul's uncle. 1 Samuel 14:50,51 . The genealogy here falls thus:
Abiel.

Kish. Ner.

Saul. Abner.
This differs from the Chronicles, where Ner is the son of Jehiel of Gibeon, and the father of Kish, the father of Saul. 1 Chronicles 8:33; 1 Chronicles 9:36,39 . The rabbis say that this Ner is the same person as Abiel; but others suppose him to be some earlier ancestor not elsewhere mentioned.
