There are four Hebrew words used for basons nearly all referring to the temple service.
1. aggan , 'a cup, bowl, or bason.' Exodus 24:6 .
2. kephor, 'large cup or bowl,' probably for the wine when drunk before the Lord; when blood is spoken of a different word is used. 1 Chronicles 28:17; Ezra 1:10; Ezra 8:27 .
3. mizraq, 'large bason or bowl,' used for holding the blood that had to be sprinkled, etc. Exodus 27:3; Exodus 38:3; Numbers 7:13-85 'bowls'; 1 Kings 7:40,45,50; 2 Kings 12:13; 2 Chronicles 4:8,11,22; Nehemiah 7 : 70.
4. saph, 'dish, bowl.' Exodus 12:22; 2 Samuel 17:28; Jeremiah 52:19 . In the N.T. νιπτήρ, 'large bason,' which our Lord used when he washed the feet of His disciples. John 13:5 .
