KEY . See House, Â§ 6 . Of the passages where this word is used in a figurative sense the most important are Isaiah 22:22 (cf. Revelation 3:7 ), where the key is the symbol of authority and rule; Luke 11:52 ‘the key of knowledge’; and the crux interpretum , Matthew 16:19 , for which see Power of the Keys.
