GIBEATH (Heb. gib‘ath , st. constr. of gib‘âh ), ‘hill of,’ enters into the composition of place names, and is occasionally retained untranslated by RVm [Note: Revised Version margin.] . Such instances are: ( a ) Gibeath hâ-‘arâlôth , ‘hill of the foreskins,’ where the Israelites were circumcised ( Joshua 5:3 ). ( b ) Gibeath-Phinehas , in Mount Ephraim, where Eleazar was buried ( Joshua 24:33 ); site unknown. ( c ) Gibeath ham-môreh ( Judges 7:1 etc.; see Moreh, 2 ). ( d ) Gibeath hâ-Elohîm ( 1 Samuel 10:5 ) = Gibeah, 2. ( e ) Gibeath hâ-Hachîlah ( 1 Samuel 23:19 etc.). See Hachilah. ( f ) Gibeath Ammah ( 2 Samuel 2:24 ). See Ammah. ( g ) Gibeath Gareb ( Jeremiah 31:39 ). See Gareb, 2 .
