CHEEK . The seat of health and beauty ( Song of Solomon 1:10; Song of Solomon 5:13 ). To be smitten on the cheek was the climax of insult and violence. That the command in Matthew 5:39 is not to be interpreted literally is shown by Christ’s own protest in John 18:23 .
