1. Law tablets Scripture names the stone objects bearing the Ten Commandments the tablets (or tables) of the law (Exodus 24:12 ), testimony (Exodus 31:18 ), and covenant (Deuteronomy 9:9 ). These tablets were perhaps small steles such as those other nations used to publicize their laws.
2. Writing tablets Writing was often done on clay tablets (Ezekiel 4:1 ) or wood tablets covered with wax (Luke 1:63 ). The heart is often described as a tablet upon which God writes His law (Proverbs 3:3; Jeremiah 17:1; 2 Corinthians 3:3 ).
