Two different instruments used to tend the lamps in the tabernacle and the Temple. One instrument seems to be a cutting tool used for trimming the wicks of the lamps. The other word is often translated “tongs” (Isaiah 6:6 ), meaning that it consisted in two parts working together. Exodus 25:38 speaks of “tongs” and “snuffdishes.” Evidently these instruments were used to trim the wicks of the lamps and dispose of the waste.
