Animal whose name apparently means, “moist one.” It illustrates the quick end to life (Psalm 58:8 ). Attempts to translate “miscarriage” instead of “snail” do not seem to be based on good linguistic evidence. KJV translated the unclean reptile of Leviticus 11:30 as “snail.” Other suggestions include “sand reptile” (NAS), “skink” (NIV), “sand lizard” (NRS), and “great lizard” (REB).
