NRSV term for the stone base upon which Ahab set the bronze sea after removing it from the twelve bronze oxen (2 Kings 16:17 ). Other translations for pediment include: base (NIV), foundation (TEV), pavement (KJV, NAS). Ahab's changes in the Temple equipment were an attempt to gain favor with the Assyrians.
