מְדָן

(mee' dan) Personal name meaning “judgment.” Third son of Abraham and Keturah (Genesis 25:2; 1 Chronicles 1:32 ) and ancestor of a little-known Arab tribe. The Medan should perhaps be identified with the Badan, a people conquered by Tiglath-pileser III of Assyria (732 B.C.). Others argue for textual corruption of the term Media.
