(Luh-De br) Place name variously spelled in Hebrew to mean “no word” or “to him a word” or “to speak.” City which was home to Mephibosheth after his father Jonathan's death (2 Samuel 9:4-5 ) and to Machir who assisted David when he was fleeing Absalom (2 Samuel 17:27 ). The location of Lo-Debar is uncertain. The best suggestion is a city in Northern Transjordan near Mahanaim (2 Samuel 17:27 ), a city with well-established loyalties to the family of Saul (2 Samuel 2:8 ). Lo-Debar is perhaps identical with Debir in the territory of Gad (Joshua 13:26 ). A less likely identification is Debir in the territory of Judah between Jerusalem and Jericho (Joshua 15:7 ).
