(juhss' tuhss) Common Jewish personal name. 1. In Acts 1:23 , the surname of Joseph Barsabbas, one of two men put forward to replace Judas Iscariot among the twelve. 2. A pious man, probably a Roman citizen, whose home joined the synagogue in Corinth (Acts 18:7 ). Paul left the synagogue and moved into the home of Titius Justus (KJV omits Titius following some Greek manuscripts). Some scholars equate him with Titus (following some Greek manuscripts), while more identify him with Gaius of Romans 16:23 . Neither identification is more than a scholarly guess based on similarity of name. 3. Surname of a fellow minister with Paul (Colossians 4:11 ).
