(hehl' day i) Personal name meaning, “mole.” 1. Officer in charge of David's army for the twelfth month of the year (1 Chronicles 27:15 ). He is apparently the same as Heled, David's military hero (1 Chronicles 11:30 ), called Haleb in 2 Samuel 23:29 . 2 . Man who returned from Exile in Babylon, apparently with a gift of silver and gold, which God told Zechariah to take and have made into a crown for Joshua, the high priest. (Zechariah 6:10 ). Zechariah 6:14 calls him Helem, which probably represents a copying change. Some students think Heldai was a nickname and Helem the official name. The earliest Greek translation took the names in this verse as common nouns rather than as proper names, translating Heldai as “the rulers.”
