(hay' rihm) Personal name meaning, “dedicated.” 1. Clan leader from Bethlehem whose family returned from Babylonian Exile with Zerubbabel about 537 B.C. (Ezra 2:32 ). 2 . Head of one course of priests appointed under David's leadership (1 Chronicles 24:8; compare Ezra 2:39; Nehemiah 12:15 ). Some members of this clan agreed under Ezra's leadership to divorce their foreign wives to protect the people from the temptation of false worship (Ezra 10:21 ). 3 . Another Israelite clan with members having to divorce foreign wives under Ezra (Ezra 10:31 ). The clan name may have come from an original ancestor but more likely from the town of residence—Charim, eight miles northeast of Joppa. One of these clan members helped Nehemiah build the Jerusalem wall (Nehemiah 3:11 ). 4 . Priest who signed Nehemiah's covenant to obey God's law (Nehemiah 10:5 ). 5 . Clan leader who signed Nehemiah's covenant (Nehemiah 10:27 ).
