(cay nuh' uhn) One of the twelve apostles is identified(Mark 3:18 RSV) as Simon the Cananaean (KJV renders “Simon the Canaanite”).In some other New Testament references this individual is called Simon the Zealot. Cananaean is probably the Aramaic equivalent of Greek zealot. See Apostles; Disciples; Zealot .
