Verses 1-6

Psalms 126

Rewarded

Scripture v. 1-6:

Verse 1 recounts "when the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream," when He turned in mercy to them, when they returned in penitence to Him, Deuteronomy 30:2-3; Deuteronomy 30:9-10; Deuteronomy 4:30; Isaiah 10:21-22; Isaiah 59:20; Nehemiah 1:8-9.

"Like them that dreamed," means "we could hardly believe our eyes, that our deliverance was real," Isaiah 29:7-8; Genesis 45:26; Acts 12:9; Luke 24:11; See also Job 9:16; Mark 16:11.

Verse 2 adds that, "then," when they were set free from captivity, their mouth was filled with laughter and their tongue with joyful singing, as they witnessed among the heathen that the Lord had done great things for them, Job 8:21; Joel 2:21.

Verse 3 asserts, "the Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad," as all the redeemed should be, Psalms 107:2; Philippians 4:4; Romans 5:5.

Verse 4 appeals, "turn again our captivity (into freedom), O Lord, as the streams in the south," the rain swollen streams of prosperity, Job 6:15-20; Joshua 15:19; Psalms 68:9.

Verse 5 pledges, "they that sow in tears shall reap in joy," or in singing. The fruit of faithful seed sown with bitter tears shall bear fruits of certain joy, a just reason for obedient perseverance in witnessing, even to old age, Ecclesiastes 11:1-5; 1 Corinthians 15:58; Galatians 6:9; Jeremiah 31:9.

Verse 6 concludes that the one who continually goes forth, in all seasons, weeping, bearing and sharing precious seed (of the word), shall assuredly come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves (rewards) with him; Sow on dear soul! Sow on! Ecclesiastes 11:6; James 5:7-8; 2 Corinthians 9:6; Galatians 6:8-9.
